NeoArctic has won a Reumert award
Hooray! June 10, The team of NEOARCTIC, Hotel Pro Forma, received this year’s Reumert in the category Performance Art Work of the Year.
We highly appreciate the great acknowledgment of this performance that we, in humility, are proud of.
The jury’s motivation sounded: “Hotel Pro Forma’s relevant opera performance is a visual abundance of marvelous and fragile images of apocalyptic beauty. In ‘NeoArctic’, icebergs melt while plastic pollution of the oceans slides onto the stage. Natural disasters come together with amazing singing voices while the music’s disharmonies complete the dreadful tale of death.”
The award category is brand new and embraces performances like NEOARCTIC, which can not be ascribed to neither classical theater nor opera.
NEOARCTIC was also nominated for another award, Stage Design of the Year. The special feature of this nomination was the recognition of the entire artistic team behind NEOARCTIC.
Not the first award
In the past, Hotel Pro Forma has received Reumert of the Year in 2012 in the category Scenographer of the Year for WAR SUM UP with the scenography of Kirsten Dehlholm, Willie Flindt and Jesper Kongshaug. Here too, we got two nominations: Scenographer of the Year and Opera of the Year.
In 2015, the artistic director and founder of Hotel Pro Forma Kirsten Dehlholm received the prestigious honorary Reumert award. Here, the motivation said, among other things: “The recipient of the Honorary Award of the Year is a superb image maker, an explorer in time and space – across the art forms. She gives us new eyes to experience theater with.”
Hotel Pro Forma challenges new territories
Hotel Pro Forma had invited Programme Director for Aarhus 2017, Juliana Engberg, to the Reumert award show. Juliana was happy about the award for Hotel Pro Forma and stated later:
“Hotel Pro Forma under the direction of the legendary Kirsten Dehlholm have become synonymous with theatre that crosses boundaries to explore practice and enhance the intensity of experience. With Neoarctic, delivering its co mingling of the classical voice, electronica, dramatic staging and movement, Hotel Pro Forma have not only found newer territories to artistically explore, they have also created a relevant, and urgently needed lament for a world in ecological crisis. Aarhus 2017 is proud to have supported the creation of this unique and important work, and we are delighted for Kirsten and the company that they have been honored with a Reumert award.”
