Experience works by the Italian artist Giacomo Raffaelli at the Lounge
8 May 2015
‘The unit of the mass is the kilogram; it is equal to the mass of the international prototype of the kilogram.’
– Then how heavy is really a kilogram?
The artistic practice of Atelier Hotel Pro Forma’s current artist-in-residence Giacomo Raffaelli explores scientific research. Through the use of photography, video and text he examines the idea of measurement as well as the aesthetics of devices used in the scientific field.
Throughout the last year Giacomo has been collaborating with a team of scientists at the NPL – National Physical Laboratory (UK), who are attempting to redefine the international kilogram prototype.
In Copenhagen the research went on, having access to the laboratory of the DFM – Danish Fundamental Metrology, where the Danish copy of the kilogram prototype is stored.
Combining video-footage, 3D modeling and archival research, this stage of the project has led to the production of new visual and text-based works. Engaging with questions of knowledge production in cross-disciplinary contexts, an editorial project and a lecture will be presented, together with a new video installation and previous works.
