INTRODUCING A FALL / 2014

INTRODUCING A FALL

The staging of a disaster by Karl Van Welden

5 December 2014

Following his critically acclaimed installation at the 2013 Metropolis Festival in Copenhagen, Karl Van Welden returns from Belgium as Hotel Pro Forma’s artist-in-residence. Step into Van Welden’s creative process at Hotel Pro Forma Lounge. Experience how his multi-media installations evoke mankind’s fascination with catastrophe.

A FALL stages a disaster for one object. Ash descends upon vinyl turnstiles, creating unique patterns out of musical ruin. A FALL questions our ambiguous relationship with impending disaster. It is a contemporary ‘memento mori’, a reminder of our mortality.

Bring your own old vinyl record (not your favorite) and let it become a part of the exhibition. Watch the ash cover your record and experience the unique patterns that are created while the music decays.

The video installation MARSlab will also show Van Welden’s first experiments with the momentum of a natural disaster. Further selected photographs and artworks from his Mars II series also express the human struggle with the natural elements.

LOUNGE: INTRODUCING A FALL
